What can we do to save space on our hard disk How can we prevent it from filling up to overflowing? In this article we give you some keys.

Keys to save space on your hard drive

The task of saving GB in our hard drive must be both preventive and corrective. Corrective to remove the unnecessary when it has become full. And preventive to follow a habit that prevents the computer from filling up with unnecessary junk. You can follow the following tips:

1. You must free up space on the hard disk. Just right-click on the drive and hit properties. There you will see how much space you have left to fill. Not everything you see is real information, because when you delete one thing and add another, it is not saved on top of it. Click on the “free hard disk space” button.

2. Check the images and videos you don’t need.
Images and videos usually take up a lot of space, especially if you are one of those who work in graphic design or write a lot in blogs and download free images on your computer. Go into your images folder and delete all the images you don’t need.

3. Delete unnecessary programs.
Programs sometimes make our PC take longer to load. But they also take up space on our hard drive. Many of them we downloaded at one point in time and now we no longer use them. Go to the “control panel”, then to “add and remove programs” and uninstall the ones you no longer need. Find out beforehand which software you are uninstalling.

4. Move your documents to an external hard drive. A common practice is to save archival documents that you are not going to work with regularly on an external hard drive. In my opinion they are better than CDs and DVDs and also pen-drives. Make the decision to save things there or make an automated online backup so you don’t have everything on your computer.

5. Don’t download everything. A bad computing practice is to always download and save information to our desktop. It is not always necessary. For example, if you need to consult a word document sent to you by Gmail, you can view it with Google Docs without downloading.

In some circumstances, it may be useful for you to use file storage programs such as Dropbox and so on, but if they are third-party files (for example, from your clients), it is not recommended that you share them in the cloud and it is always better to use an online backup.
